Fox and Fortuna is in-person Tarot for skeptics— using ancient systems of psychology to hand out tools for modern people.

Study

Simmered eagerly in both modern and arcane systems of psychology, here, the Big 5, Enneagram, and ancient archetypes mix with depth-oriented, cognitive, and narrative therapies to honor each uniqueness.

Strategy

Without joyful submission to ethical systems psychics become swindlers. The engine of Fox and Fortuna is a moral commitment to rationally introducing tools of self-discovery, not ego-stroking affirmations.

Sublimation

Practical transformation is the result —at the querent’s pace. Readings cast all of us as divine-but-imperfect heroes, mid-journey… handing intuitive heroes realistic tools, and realistic heroes intuitive ones.

Three Spheres

Readings begin with an invitation to intuition using three polished spheres—each representing an alchemical phase from pre-Renaissance proto-psychology.

Two Decks

Then a choice between the art of a wildly-gracious Rider-Waite deck (given to me by a Caribbean Priestess), or a rigorously-mystical Thoth deck (given by a Rocky Mountain Hermit).

Readings use intentionally minimal spreads of two, three, or four cards to reflect the shape of the querent’s questions: a choice, a change, or a chart. Simplicity brings clarity. When clarity is not manifest, the querent may request for additional cards to be laid upon these structures.

…and a Token

Readings conclude with a gift—a shelf-or-pocket artifact combining science-based magic (to encourage calm self-determination) and silliness (to discourage zealous certainty).

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”

-Douglas Adams, “The Salmon of Doubt”

Fox and Fortuna is crafted to invite those who are tolerant-but-dismissive of the esoteric. Tarot is perceived by many as naive, irrational, and at worst—sinful. This brand is about filtering out the woo and keeping the wonder, the magician who will happily explain how you can do the magic for yourself.

  • & the Curious

Adored by the downtrodden, feared by the powerful, Fortuna was a Roman symbol of the inevitable turns of luck and misfortune that shape our lives. She is known across the world by many names: Lakshmi, Arianrhod, Aje, Benzaiten, and in modern America—Lady Luck.

Her wheel of fortune spins underneath all. Bringing down the haughty, lifting up the weary, and keeping us all on our toes.

I’m an admirer of human foolishness, drawn to the shapeshifting heroes of myth, I take joy in learning, practicing, forgetting, and re-learning how to live like Hermes, Loki, Krishna and chEEeee-HOOoo… Maui.

Foxes, to me, are dog software in cat hardware. It’s my mission to eagerly, but thoughtfully walk the tightrope between distinct cultures and philosophies.
